Policy Analyst—Racial Equity at Demos

The Policy Analyst will produce quantitative analyses and policy research on a range of issues related to economic security and upward mobility, with a specific focus on racial wealth inequality. The position is housed within the research team at Demos and will report to the Director of Policy and Research.

The successful candidate must have the following skills and qualities:

  • Basic Data Expertise. You have training and previous experience in using one or more statistical software packages such as Stata, SPSS or R. You have basic familiarity and experience in working with microdata from U.S. statistical agencies and other sources of household data, such as the American Community Survey (ACS), Current Population Survey (CPS), and Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF).
  • Strong Writing and Analytical Skills. You have previous experience in data and policy analysis for publications in the public policy field, and you are a strong writer who can provide solid draft material for reports and grow into a lead author of major policy publications. You are able to write with a point of view without sacrificing intellectual rigor.
  • Strategic and Creative Thinking. You understand that ideas matter and view research as a critical component for creating the public and political will for change. You are curious by nature, and eager to apply yourself in helping to expand and shape our research agenda around racial wealth gaps and other forms of racial inequity in the economy. You are eager to contribute to bold, over the horizon policy solutions that will close that racial wealth gaps in this country.
  • Commitment to Racial Equity Analysis & Practice. You have a demonstrated commitment to expressing and advancing a strong racial equity analysis and you embrace the responsibility of consistently integrate this understanding into your work projects and personal interactions in the context of your job responsibilities.
  • Advanced degree or Equivalent Experience. You have an advanced degree in economics, sociology, or public policy, or equivalent experience outside of academia.
