The Carolina Population Center is made up of a large, diverse, vibrant, productive, and innovative set of population scholars. They co-reside with well-trained and ambitious predoctoral students, postdoctoral scholars, and professional, highly skilled staff. The organization is led by talented, experienced, and forward looking researchers and administrators. Effective mechanisms for governance and a set of flexible research services are in place. The reach and quantity of research and the scholarly output of this population science community is impressive.

Equally impressive are the important questions tackled in CPC’s Primary Research Areas and the critical barriers to progress in population science confronted by its “signature” research approaches. While it is strengthened by its historical roots and by many wise choices made in the past, the current Carolina Population Center is strong and well positioned to make substantial and innovative contributions to contemporary population science generally, and specifically to the interdisciplinary study of social, biological, and environmental influences on population processes and health.

The Carolina Population Center community of scholars and professionals strive to:

• create new knowledge about population size, structure, and processes of change
• develop new sources of data to support population research
• promote the development and use of innovative methodologies
• build skills and capacity and train the next generation of scholars
• disseminate data and findings to population professionals, policy-makers, and the public
