Dr. Morenoff’s research interests focus on neighborhood environments, crime and criminal justice, the social determinants of health, and racial/ethnic/immigrant inequality. He is currently conducting research on prisoner reentry, the social context and spatial dynamics of health and crime, and neighborhood social processes.

Jeff Morenoff began his 5-year term as director of the Population Studies Center on July 1, 2013. ISR director James Jackson describes Jeff as “an exceptionally accomplished researcher who brings tremendous energy and passion to his leadership of the Center.” Jeff says he feels “fortunate to inherit a Center that is a national and international leader in demographic research and training.”

Jeff plans to take a long-planned leave from his directorship to work on a new book in the 2013 winter term, during which time former PSC director David Lam will serve as acting director of PSC.
